Château Rauzan-Gassies: the history of the estate
Château Rauzan-Gassies was ranked first among Margaux’ s second growths in the 18th century. This same château was awarded the title of second grand cru in 1855. In 1946, it became the property of Monsieur Paul Quié, a wine enthusiast living in Paris. Sadly, Mr. Quié died in 1968 and bequeathed the continuity of Château Rauzan-Gassies to his son Jean-Michel. This was the period when the château underwent major modernization and renovation. Jean-Philippe and Anne-Françoise, Jean-Michel’s two children, took over the Rauzan-Gassies business in 2000. The chateau has grown in size and plot size under their management. It’s sure to have a bright future ahead of it.
The surface area of Château Rauzan-Gassies
The Rauzan-Gassies estate boasts 30 hectares of vineyards and is located in the heart of the Médoc Regional Park. These vines are planted at around 12,000 vines/ha and are around 30 years old. They are also naturally grown. The Quié estate is divided into several grape varieties. These include :
- 65% Cabernet Sauvignon Noir ;
- 05% Petit Verdot Noir ;
- 25% merlot noir ;
- 05% Cabernet Franc Noir.
Le Châtelet Rauzan-Gassies benefits not only from a very fruitful terrain for quality, but also from an oceanic climate. It’s made up of meadows and trees as far as the eye can see. The soil is also composed of deep gravel, sandy clay, gravelly sand and lacustrine limestone. This is perfectly suited to vineyards.
