Recognized as one of the most prestigious estates in France, the Château Léoville Las Cases estate is part of the “Domaines Delon” group. This justifies in large part the quality of its red wines. Moreover, it is found under the name of Saint-Julien of which it is a true emblem.

The history of the Château Léoville Las Cases wine estate

The adventure of the Léoville Las Cases estate began in the 17th century. Over the years, he has belonged to some of the most influential and distinguished families in French high society. However, during the revolution, this domain as originally known was divided into smaller parts. It was then that the Léoville Las Cases vineyard, recognized as the former heart of this property, was delimited to 55 hectares. It extends from the village of Saint-Julien to the Château Latour.

It should be noted that the current owner of this domain is Jean-Hubert Delon. Indeed, his family acquired Léoville Las Cases at the end of the 19th century. Since then, it has been passed down from generation to generation.

The grape varieties of Léoville Las Cases

The current owner and manager of the estate, Jean-Hubert Delon, is recognized as one of the greatest experts of great French wines in Bordeaux. He is, in fact, knowledgeable enough to take full care of this terroir with its high complexity and an average age of over 52 years. Note that the lands of Léoville Las Cases are of high quality and have legendary geological combinations. These are gravelly-clay soils on the one hand and gravelly-sandy subsoils on the other.

All these characteristics contribute to the good development of the grape varieties produced on the estate. The grape varieties are 16% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot and 61% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is thanks to this grape variety that the wines of Château Léoville Las Cases have a unique and original taste. Moreover, the microclimate generated by the proximity of the Gironde River provides the vines with optimal protection against bad weather. This allows the vines to develop better and to obtain an ideal maturity in better conditions. Therefore, the full potential of the grape varieties is developed.

For years and still today, Chateau Léoville Las Cases has enjoyed great distinction thanks to the finest and most elegant wines it puts on the market. The notoriety of the wine produced on the domain of Léoville Las Cases increased from the XVIIIth century thanks to the actions of Blaise Antoine Alexandre de Gasq de Léoville. The latter was the owner of this domain at that time.
