Château Léoville Poyferré de Saint-Julien
The city of Saint-Julien is located in the south of France, on the other side of the border with Italy. Over the years, the name has become synonymous with fine wines and gastronomy.
Today, many people consider this city as the ideal place to taste unique wines and have a typical French dinner of the past centuries. Some of the cellars are very old and have been used for wine storage since the 12th century. Many tourists specifically visit this city to discover the wines of the region. They call it the “Australian tour”.
The Château Léoville Poyferré
Dating from the beginning of the 17th century, Léoville Poyferré is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the Saint-Julien appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux. In 1979, Didier Cuvelier took over the Saint-Julien estate, carefully preserving it with exquisite know-how. Proud of the work accomplished since the late 1970s, Didier Cuvelier handed over the reins to Sarah Lecompte-Cuvelier in 2018 after her retirement.
Chateau Léoville Poyferré was classified as the second grand cru of Saint-Julien in 1855, and its first wines were produced on 80 hectares of gravel, which is a combination of pebbles and clay.
The vines are planted in rows to allow the grapes to grow in several directions.

Harvesting at the Léoville Poyferré estate
The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted twice before brewing, starting in stainless steel tanks and ending with 18 to 20 months of aging in new barrels.
About three weeks before the harvest, the technical team goes around the whole estate with Michel Rolland (the winemaker’s advisor) to taste the grapes in order to evaluate their maturity. Phenolic and technical analyses complete and enrich these daily tastings. Harvest plans are beginning to take shape.
Then, under the wise guidance of different teams, the year’s work is completed with respect for each vine. The grapes are then transported in crates to the vat room to preserve their brightness, freshness and integrity.
